Let’s get one thing straight here: I’m neither a loser or a complainer. I just want to clear that up right here and right now. I was a spectator at what some people believe was a poorly officiated game. I’m not the only one. Cruise on over to Robo, there is an entire thread over there about it. You are focusing on one call of many that was jacked up in this series. You also don’t seem to understand that the call was in Kentucky’s favor. Mickey Dean wanted the ball called foul, and he would have saved an out and kept a runner on third. Why would I complain about that?

I have not taken any shot at Auburn. The two freshmen pitchers are excellent and are only going to get better. Auburn is hitting the ball. Mickey Dean is an excellent coach and we are just starting to see what his teams can do imho. Shelby Lowe does gym step on about half of her pitches, replanting about four inches ahead of the rubber but I don’t think that’s unusual in college softball and I don’t think it it’s uncommon for that to not be called. Frankly, I don’t care.

I HAVE taken a shot at an umpire crew that lost control of a game. Softball is a beautiful and efficient game. Having to stop the game every inning for a conference with your umpire crew chief to fix a screw up takes away from that beauty.

The one call you think I’m complaining about was only one call. Auburn would have lost more than Kentucky did had they not fixed it. While they were running a Mentos commercial on tv, they were putting the batter runner on first. The players/coaches/umpires seemed unsure if the ball was live or dead and she was not on first. The batter runner might have gone to the dugout, idk. This call was not rocket science. Yet it led to arguing on both sides and I can tell you it was handled poorly and in a very unprofessional manner.

The worse call was tipped foul ball in the seventh that hp ump called for a third strike. That one never got fixed. That set off some chaos.
Fair enough @Westwind and please know I wasn't pertaining to you as a loser I can assure you. Although I can see where that might have been taken that way so please accept my apology. It was not intended that way I can assure.

I saw it a bit differently and didn't think it was a train wreck. A few questionable calls but nothing that I don't see in many games we all watch. But perhaps I wasn't paying enough attention and will admit while I spent alot of time watching those games I did channel surf to other games here and there so likely I missed some of the calls you mention.

In regards to Shelby Lowe's gym step, I will have to look at that further the next time I watch them. I agree it seems not to be called that often anymore which I don't really care one way or the other either.

All good and hope you are enjoying some more good games today. Just waiting for the Oklahoma thread to be posted as my alma matter really looks as good as any OU team I have seen before. Pitching is not the best they have had IMHO but still super solid. But the defense and the bats are absolutely unreal. I hope Texas plays them a little bit closer today and does not get another run rule.

It was an obvious foul tip.

Didn't see the play, but from your description I don't see your argument. A foul-tip IS A STRIKE regardless of count. (See definition of foul-tip in any code). If you mean a foul ball that was barely contacted by the bat, then I would agree it is just a foul ball.

It was tipped but called third strike swinging.

Was the ball caught? If yes, foul tip-strike-out. If no, foul ball, count remains same. It is NOT a foul tip UNLESS the ball is caught, in which case it is ALWAYS a strike regardless of count.

The play in question was clearly a pitch fouled off at a downward angle into the dirt, but was called a swing and miss, dropped 3rd strike. It appeared that the C was the only person who realized the umpire was giving a safe signal and not a foul signal so she threw to 1B for the out. The batter knew she fouled it off so she didn't run.

If the ball went from bat to ground then yes it was a foul ball. This is not a Foul-tip (rule book language). Nor is it a 'tipped ball', nor a ball that was 'tipped foul', neither of these is defined in the rule book and easily confused with a foul-tip. A foul-tip is a pitch that was stuck at and contacted that goes sharp and direct to the catcher's glove. This is a strike and a live ball, no matter the count.

What about the scenario that I brought up, where a line drive hits the runner in foul territory but this kept the 3rd baseman from catching the ball??
Runner is out. Foul ball on the batter (a strike if less than two strikes on the pitch.)
Are you saying the runner is out for interference? Or b/c the ball contacted her?
Brought back the scenario ArmWhip asked about.
Out for interference.
Foul ball. Sorry about that.
