It just doesn’t make sense. There has to be an energy transfer from the ball to the bat. You saying a bat not being held at all would have the same effect as a bat being held solid with a 250lb weight behind it doenst check out. In a bat not being held almost all for the energy goes into the bat and pushes it backwards, with the weight to stop the backwards motion the bat is going to absorb the energy and return at fair amount back into the ball? Clearly your the physics guy but I did stay at a holiday in express once

It makes a lot more sense than quantum entanglement...

There was a study done by Nathan Alan (@pobguy on Twitter) years ago that proved that what happens at the handle at the moment of impact won't have any effect on the ball. The finding was that the vibrations don't travel from the ball to the handle and back to the ball fast enough to make a difference during contact. This was with a wood baseball bat and a baseball.

A little while back, a DFP'er did some non-scientific testing with a softball and softball bat. What he found was that with a ball hit on the sweetspot, the handle being held or not held makes very little difference. On miss-hits, however, holding the handle made a significant difference in the result (better).

Put it this way, a kid from Arkansas hit one 300+ feet last week. I can easily see the TX kid’s barrel speed at contact being roughly 2/3 of the AR hitter(assuming they both barreled up the ball and the pitch speeds were comparable)...

Everyone needs to put their analytical hats on and forget about what the swing actually looks like..I’ve seen plenty of garbage swings from big 11, 12 and 13 YO over the last few years which end up being OTF 200+ ft HR 😄

Now to answer your original question no I haven’t seen a swing quite like that go for an OTF HR but typically on a swing like that the pitch location is going to be such that it is going to be hard to barrel up. That pitch location actually looked like it caught a decent amount of the plate. It looked like her coach told her to just put something in play and that swing was the result...
Here is the pitch location on that swing. It was on the line of the other batters box

Ok I was wrong..not the first time, won't be the last. Where do you want me to send your medal? ;)
Honestly wasn’t trying to call anyone out, had a D1 assistant coach send me video of this homerun on Monday, but his video wasn’t good, and we were discussing the bats being crazy hot. So I went to the game and copied the girls entire at bat, and then did still images just to see everything that took place. And he and I were both every surprised of where the pitch location was actually at

Are bats getting hotter? Maybe, manufacturers keep trying new processes to get around compression tests. Can you check swing over a 200 foot fence? Easy. I use a 30 inch drop 11 6 year old Worth fastpitch bat as a fungo bat hitting balls to my team and can easily hit it over one handed if I try. Are bats colleges use the same as off the rack? Always, there has never been a difference. Colleges buy from stores occasionally when they are in a pickle and have broke too many bats. Do colleges break alot of bats? Lots and lots. At their first tournament last year my DD's DII college team broke 6 Easton Ghost Advanced bats. In total they broke about 15 in the short season last year. They get them at half price but it's a revolving door with new bats coming in weekly during season. Are college girls stronger? This is where the rubber meets the road. College softball players are bigger and stronger than they've ever been. Weight rooms are utilized ten times more in the last ten years than they ever were. These girls are beasts when they come into the programs and only get stronger.
