The brand is not as important as having an appropriate size for your DD so she can build good mechanics. Choose the bat she feels most comfortable swinging. My DD is 9 and I buy her good used composite bats at play it again sports.
Thanks so much! I will have to check out Play it Again Sports we have one close.

Right now she’s using a 25” 12 oz bat that she’s been using since she started tee ball when she was four. She’s actually not quite 8 but will be 8 real soon. She’s been playing rec ball but her team of 7/8/9 year olds is going to start a more competitive travel/tournament team. Thank you for your help!’
What size and weight bat does she currently have. What height and weight is your daughter. Is she playing rev ball or travel ball? Did she just turn 8 or is she almost 9 so she would have to move up to 10u?

Sorry I forgot to mention she’s 61 pounds and 49” tall.

Hi Erin- I would go with a hybrid or 1 piece composite at your daughters age.
There are many options out there. If you can still find them (maybe on Baseball Monkey) a Miken Halo light drop 12.5, or a Worth Legit (light blue, yellow/green drop 12.5 are good choices for a reasonable cost.
For less money you have the Louisville Slugger Proven or Demarini Bustos models.
My favorite pick would be a 2019 Slugger LXT. The prices are dropping with the 2020 bats out now. The LXT has the most weight choices of any high-end bat. Drop 8-12. I would recommend drop 11.
The Demarini CF Zen drop 11 is also a fine choice.
If your on a tight budget the Mizuno Finch line is a good place to look for a good alloy bat. Again I would go with drop 11 or lighter.
Anderson bats is having a big sale right now on their wesite. They have several alloy/composite bats suited to younger players.
Many good bats out there. If you can I would demo as many as possible before you purchase.
Thanks for all these recommendations! We are going to try some out at the Dicks near us I didn’t realize some of them have batting cages.

This right here^^^^^!

Are you familiar with bat drop weights?
Let’s take a drop 10 (-10) bat that’s a 30/20 for example, that means the bat in 30 inches long & weighs 20 ounces.

At age 8 I’d be looking at a -11 or a -12 at the very most, stay away from a -13, my preference would be a -11 if possible, so that same 30” bat would weigh 19 ounces.

What size is her current bat? I’d probably consider at least starting an inch longer than that bat.

Don’t worry so much about which brand, but definitely buy a top name composite bat! And I’d definitely consider a used bat from Play-it-again-sports. Unless some little girl has a butthead brother who hit rocks or light poles with her bat, most girls that age don’t even break it in much less hurt it! A little road rash is okay, just put a new Lizard skin grip on it and it’ll feel like a new $250 bat!
Thanks so much I am just starting to learn about the drop weights. Her current bat is a 25 inch 12 oz bat. I am thinking she might need to go quite a bit longer? It seems like when she swings now the barrel doesn’t even extend all the way over the plate. I just know her coach said she needs a new one.

A bat my second year 8U daughter recently used with success was a Louisville Quest, 28" drop 12. Actual weight is very close to advertised weight (16.4 oz). Has a nice sound to it on contact (versus the standard aluminum ping) and light weight helps bat speed and developing mechanics. My daughter is 50" tall and ~60 lbs.
Thank you our daughter are real close in size!

Perfect, have her try out some of the weights they are using to get a better idea

When DD was 8 we got her a used Demarini for around $65 on Ebay. It was several generations old but still alive and kicking (a CF4 or 5, I can't remember which).

My DD uses an older 29/17 Demarini C6 Vendetta and she is quite small for her age at 51 lbs but has great bat speed. We tried a bunch of bats and found that many of the bats in this size feel very much different even though they are the supposedly the same weight. It is super important to demo bats before you buy one.

Demarini Vendetta -12 is a good bat with a very light swing. It has a slightly more balanced swing than the -12 LTX. It is also comes in a little closer to its theoretical weight. The LTX typically comes in a little bit heavier.

One more for you. The Rawlings Velo is a great bat for younger players. It is a full two piece composite with a very light end cap. Velo stands for Velocity. It is supposed to be the lightest swinging bat available. I would suggest the drop 11. You can get a 2018 version for around $100. Not bad for a $250 bat.
We have one and haven’t really used it much until recently. Just started breaking it in for 18U tournaments.
First time up against a girl throwing in the low 60’s gapper to right center for a double. My daughter is 13 so she has to go with a nice quality light bat when she plays-up.
