I'm currently beginning on teaching dd how to Side step with her right foot behind left ft and then stepping to target with left foot on throw to 3rd. I guess this would be for 3rd base steal attempts. She's doing well with it. Is this the most common/best motion for catchers to throw to 3rd on steals?
Is this the same motion that I should be teaching her for picks at 3rd? OR Should she be throwing from inside the runner down the baseline on pick plays?
Also a question about steal plays at 3rd about the motion mentioned above, is it common for umps to sometimes be interfering with the catcher's motion on this or are they taught to back away immediately upon the catcher receiving the ball. Sometimes these umps are pretty near the backside of the catchers.
