My DD doesn't swing back while pitching but when doing walking drills she does swing the ball back.

So, when doing long toss would you walk and swing back or just go from the wind up with out walking? We have been just going from the wind up and throwing from 21 steps (around 60 feet).

Interesting question. All my pitchers have a backswing so obviously that's how we do it. When we do long toss it is for developing arm strength, so we exaggerate the whole motion. We also do walk-ins , which are similar in terms of having a long motion but they are for timing and rhythm.

Mine is still young and developing arm strength. We start from the rubber, has to throw 3 out of 5 as strikes. Then backs up 8' and repeats the process. Can't make 3 out of 5 she has to come in to the last spot she did and repeat the process. It's like a little game and she really likes it. Has made it out to the grass behind second. Always does the back swing while walking up.
