I see the same thing happen with my daughter. She loves to swing a huge bat but her little body can not manage it. With her the trailing elbow gets ahead of the top hand and the barrel drops. Doesnt happen with a properly sized bat.

Nobody is going to convince me that a 19 oz bat feels the same to a 8 or 9 yo girl as a 31 or 32 oz bat does to a full grown man. Forget about the swing. I've seen more than a few girls in 8U and a couple at 9, that can't even control a bat into load. Yes, getting a smaller lighter bat has helped them. It did not make them the next coming of the Babe, but I've seen cases where smaller bats definitely help.

Obviously both strength and coordination are an issue with these girls.

Why would you waste money on a shiny new $500 bat, when, light or heavy, you still have bat drag? What good does it do to 'control' a bat when you have bat drag?

That's what every Dad does though.

If one fixes bat drag instead:
1) it's free to learn
2) you save $500 on a bat
3) kids will hit bombs to the outfield, instead of weak grounders to 1B. Then you can spend the $$$ on action photos.
