    Batter interfering on wild pitch

This was a 12U rec game with NFHS rules. Runner on third, wild pitch. The batter didn't move out of the way enough and the catcher's throw hit the batter. The ump didn't call anything other than the runner was safe. I know there should be an out called on someone - the batter out and the runner...

    Question for the umps

This happened in our 12U rec game Saturday, using NFHS rules if that matters. It was raining off and on so the field was a bit muddy. There was a wild pitch, the runner came home and slid. The catcher got the ball to the pitcher who put the tag on. The ump grabbed the runner's foot with one hand...

Runner hit by batted ball question

12U rec game using NFHS rules. Runner is on second, SS is playing in front of the baseline. Batter hit a grounder past the SS that hit the runner. My understanding is that because the fielder made an attempt at fielding the ball prior to it hitting the runner that the runner is not out. Is this...

    Equipment sizing for 8U

I'm running a fairly new program and I'm trying to figure out what size equipment to order for 8U. It's been about 10 years since I've had any involvement with this age. I need to get helmets, catcher gear, and a few bats. Thanks!

    Batter injured during at-bat

12U rec league using NFHS rules. The entire lineup bats. We had a batter get hurt in the middle of an at-bat today. The ump said if she couldn't finish batting then it's an out because we didn't have any subs since the entire lineup bats. Is that the correct ruling?

    Pitch bounces then hits batter

What the the actual rule for a pitch that hits the ground then hits the batter? I've had some umps say it's always a HBP. I've had some say it's never a HBP. And I've had some say it's a HBP if the batter made an attempt to avoid it but not a HBP if the batter did not make an attempt to avoid it.

    Coaches who get it

I coach a 12U rec team. There are only four 14U teams in the league so we are doing some interplay between 12U and 14U. We played one of the 14U teams today and they had a pitcher who was throwing some nice heat. We have a 9 year old on our team (her sister is on our team and their parents...

Running through first and turning inward

This occurred in our game today: groundball, the throw pulls the firstbaseman off the bag, the runner runs through the base. The runner turned inward to the fair side of the line and walked back toward first without making any move towards second. The firstbaseman tagged her before she returned...

Runner scoring after another runner missed the plate

Someone posted this in another forum I read. What would the ruling be in softball? I am sitting in the stands watching a very competitive Little League game when the following occurred: Two runners are heading for home. The trail runner is gaining on the lead runner. When they reach the plate...

Continuing to second on a walk

I can't get a clear answer on this. On a walk, can the batter continue to second if the pitcher has the ball in the circle before the batter reaches first?

Batting out of order - what is the correct ruling?

This happened in our game last week. We have a 6 run limit per inning limit. We were batting and scored the 6th run. However, our scorer said it was only 5, so the next girl (A) batted and ended up walking. After the walk, our scorer realized her mistake and said it was 6 runs, which the other...

    Two questions

I have have two questions that came up in our games this weekened - 12U Rec, using NFSHSA rules, if that makes a difference. 1. A pitcher was starting with her right foot on the rubber near the left end (firstbase side) and her left foot was behind the rubber but outside the end of it. Is this...

Planning practice when you don't know how many coaches

Any tips for planning practices when you are never sure how many coaches you'll have? I coach rec and have an AC, but then after that, I'm at the mercy of whichever parents stick around at practice. So some practices we have another two or three helpers, but some practices it's just the two of...

    Starting a rec program

I'll try to explain this clearly. The league I've been coaching in is comprised of member clubs, and to play in the league you have to play through one of the clubs. The league runs a bunch of different sports - softball, baseball, football, lacrosse and a couple of others. There have only been...

Need help for indoor practice plan

We decided to schedule an indoor practice for our team in a couple of weeks (12U rec). I've never done them before so I'm looking for some ideas on how to get the most out of it. We'll have two tunnels for 90 minutes, we have the open to open them up into one large space. Our goals are to work...

How to get the other team (and ump) to move the game along

I coach two rec teams, one 10U and one 12U in different leagues. The league the 12U team played in ended right when the 10U league started. The second league only has enough players for one 12U team, so the commish has been doing what he can to get them games. He asked if I would be willing to...

How to teach them to throw lower

I'm coaching a 10U rec team and I'm struggling to figure out how to get them to keep their throws low. Most of them keep throwing rainbows. I watched one girl in practice throw one over someone's head and I told her to throw lower and her response was "how do I do that?" I didn't know what to...

I was accused of cheating (indirectly)

I'm coaching a 10U rec team. I'm a big believer in moving players around and letting everyone play a lot of positions, pitching a lot of pitchers, and mixing up the batting order so the same girls aren't always at the bottom. As a result, we ended the regular season 3-9 and 5th place in a 6 team...

DD might play again after sitting out last year

My DD is going to be a junior this year. She played JV her freshman year and then on the HC's spring/summer team. She decided not to play last fall because the HC was an a-hole, and I didn't blame her at all. HC stepped down after last fall and they finally hired a new coach this summer, so DD...

How to change posts per page

In the old software, there was a setting where you could change the number of posts per page. I can't find it in the new software - is it still there somewhere? Thanks.
