Is it legal to use a 1B mitt at any position other than 1B and Catcher?

I didn't really care, but played a game the other day where they brought a pitcher in the 3rd inning who was playing 1B for the first two and she used her same 1B mitt while pitching. Only noticed it because it was white and looked nice and we don't see many white gloves at our level (10U)

I asked the umpire (edit: after the game, I said I didn't really care) and she didn't think there was anything against it, but if it came up again, I'd love to know the official rule and I know there are some real rule junkies on this site :)

I believe it's fine in ASA and USSSA. My DD is always trying to sneak her Easton catcher's mitt on the field when she's not catching, but her coach won't allow it. It's very first base mitt-like. The only ruleset I've seen it illegal in is Dixie where you can only wear a mitt at 1st or catcher. That's the ruleset our local rec league goes by.

Had an umpire stop the game once because my dd was in left field using her catchers mitt , he said only Two (he called them trappers were allowed in the field at one time either 1st basemans mitt or catchers mitt ) turns out the girl playing 1 St base had a regular glove so it was ok ,, this was an asa tournament.

This is a thing... One game, our normal first basemen was moved to 2nd for an inning and Ump made her switch gloves. Coach was like, that is only glove she has. She had to borrow someone else's glove who was on bench that inning, before ump allowed us to continue play.

Afterward, I was curious, and did some research, and aside from a maximum size of 13", there is no other restriction in the rules that I could find regarding glove types.

And this is not a recent change.

This must be a throwback to some past rule or pseudo rule, because I've heard this before. I've never read it in a rule book, but I've heard of this. Might have been a baseball thing at one time.

If you have been around the game more than five years, you should know this :) And it still is a baseball "thing".
