Youngest DD2 playing in an 8u dixie rec game last night...I was not there (with older DD1 at travel practice). When we met at home last night my DW tells me that DD2 almost had the game-tying hit in the game. What happened? I asked...

Bases loaded, 2 outs, DD2 up to bat.
Hits a ground ball to SS.
Runner on third comes home safe.
DD2 safe at first.
SS picks up the ball and throws it to third to try and get force out on the runner from second. Runner from second beats the throw (third base didn't catch it) however she overruns third by a couple steps.
Third base picks up ball and tags runner, called out.

Apparently, they ended the game....didn't count the run. DD's team lost 7-6?

Am I right in thinking the run should have counted?

Assuming the above is an accurate description of what happened and the runner DID actually touch third base before being tagged out.

Timing play once the runner hits third and the force is now off:
- If the tag happened after the runner crossed home, then run counts.
- If the tag happened before the runner crossed home, then run doesn't count.

If she didn't actually touch third - the force is still on and the run wont count.

HTBT..

Yeah, that's the way she described it to me...but I did wonder why no one seemed to question it at the game. DW says she's sure the runner tagged third and was a few steps past it.

DD2's coach is a very nice guy, but he's just a dad who volunteered to coach the team, first year ever coaching, so I'm sure he didn't know.

Coach of the other team isn't much better...she tried to argue that one of our girls was slap hitting in a previous game (not allowed in 8u) because she moved her feet when she swung lol...this girl just turned 7 and has no clue what slap hitting is.

not sure who the Ump was but its pretty hit or miss around here. We have some that are squared away and some who are just a warm body.🧟‍♂️

Sounds pretty much like the 8U rec ball I remember. We had a couple of coaches who were pretty sharp (all had older DDs), but most were just trying to figure it out along with their kid. Without those parents, there wouldn't be teams for our kids to play on.

absolutely, hope it didn't sound like i was complaining about DD2's coach....just saying that if the run should have counted, he didn't know any better.

I've offered to help him when I can. I've run a couple of practices and he's come to me for drills and stuff.

talked to the coach last night...everything was scored correctly, the run counted.

DW just had the score wrong and thought it didn't count....first mistake shes ever made😁

Nice. I'm still waiting on DW's first official mistake. So far they've been entered as errors on the husband, but she's the one with the score book. :D

HTBT..

That would only be true if it was an appeal play, not simply tagging a runner off the base. That would at least be in the larger assoc, not sure about Dixie

I thought I made a mistake once, but I was wrong.
