I'm guessing that at 8U it's often a ball on the first pitch. Maybe that's why she takes so many. I'm more of a fan of zone hitting on the first pitch. If it's there hammer it. If they the opposite of what you are looking take it. I see so many hitters who are afraid to strike out they hack at anything close and if they have good hand/eye they can put it in play versus doing something with it.

Now if she is just looking for a walk it's a different story.

Its coach pitch, so its usually pretty close, Now they have been during her practice having the kids who are practicing to pitch starting next season pitch to the other players. So she is getting a little taste of hitting live kid pitch. I agree its usually not even close on the first pitch LOL. So far she seems to be pretty good and laying of anything bad.

It probably won't be close on the 2nd,3rd and 4th pitches either..first year kid pitch can be rough...lol

 Reminds me of when I pitched in Baseball starting at her age, I hit my fair share of batters because I wasn't even close to over the plate. HAHA I think I might need to teach her to turn from the ball properly.

I think she is playing coach pitch.

Well...wasn't specified. When DD played 8U, seems like a lifetime ago, it was a mix of kid and coach. Yeah... if the coach is throwing it over, unless you've got two or more coming, it's best to get busy!

Woodstock, man
I just watched some 8U.

1) they wait until the ball is almost on them before they stride - so they all swing late
2) they almost all bat drag

Simple fix:
1) stride on EVERY pitch as soon as the pitcher lets go of the ball
2) get them to pull their elbow back like a 'bow', so their rear forearm is flat, during the stride.

This was more specific to my DD not 8u in general
